Kerry Washington had the “Rachel” haircut too, and she blessed us with a throwback photo

Seems like circa 1994, everyone wanted to rock “The Rachel” haircut alongside Jennifer Aniston on Friends—including future fellow actors like Kerry Washington. (Celebs, they’re just like us!) Washington herself has just given us proof: On November 15th, the actress posted a sweet #fbf on Instagram of her rocking the iconic cut as a high-schooler. Spoiler alert: She looks incredible.

“This is me. In high school. Playing Ophelia from Hamlet. But this is also me, with my best attempt of the ‘RACHEL’ hair-do that had swept the globe. Thanks @JenniferAniston!!!” Kerry Washington captioned her Instagram post.

Masterminded by celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan, The Rachel is defined by its shaggy shape and face-framing layers. Aniston debuted the chop in the Friends episode “The One With the Evil Orthodontist.” (That’s Season 1, Episode 20, in case you want to relive this major cultural moment for yourself.) Washington’s cut does emulate The Rachel’s flippy ends, piece-y layers, and envious volume.

Just see it for yourself:

Also, setting the relatable haircut aside for a moment, who else would kill to see Kerry Washington play Ophelia?

And Washington was definitely not the only celebrity to have donned the iconic cut. Actually, it seems like virtually every celebrity rocked their own version of The Rachel at some point in the from the mid-90s to the early ’00s: Tyra Banks, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and noted choppy-cut-loyalist Meg Ryan have all sported similar styles.

These days, Aniston herself is opting for very un-Rachel-like natural waves. Other ’90s-inspired celebrity hair trends skew more toward blunt bobs and pixie cuts than picture-perfect shags. But if anyone has the power to bring back this super sweet style from its 25-year hibernation, it has to be Olivia Pope, right?
