Kerry Washington didn’t know a MAJOR piece of info about her baby until he was born

While filming Season 6 of Scandal, Washington got extremely creative with hiding her baby bump, but during a recent appearance on Ellen, the actress revealed that she’d been hiding something from herself as well: the sex of her baby! Yes, Washington had no idea she was having a boy until after she gave birth to her second child, 3-month-old Caleb Kelechi, whom she shares with husband Nnamdi Asomugha.

For many expectant moms, finding out the sex of their baby is a highlight of pregnancy, but we totally get why some wouldn’t want to know until the baby makes the big entry into the world. Like, why not keep things even more interesting by adding an element of surprise to your pregnancy?

Clearly, Washington was into this idea as she revealed to the talk show host that she had absolutely no concern about the baby’s sex.

"I had no idea what I was having," Washington said about her second pregnancy. "I said I hoped it was human. That turned out to be right. It's a human boy."

Washington isn’t the only celeb to take this approach. Until singer Pink gave birth to her baby boy Jameson in December, she and her husband Carey Hart didn’t know the sex of their baby either, and we think this is a pretty sweet idea.

Sure, anyone who visits you at the hospital won’t have a clue whether to present you with a balloon that reads “It’s a boy” or “It’s a girl,” but we love the fact that both of these couples preferred to focus on the health of their babies, which is ultimately what matters most.
