Is Kendrick Lamar releasing another album on Sunday? The internet thinks so

The music world held its breath when Kendrick Lamar dropped new album DAMN yesterday. K.Dot’s last release was last year’s Untitled Unmastered, but it was more of an extension of 2015’s To Pimp a ButterflyDAMN is his next big step forward — and according to fans, it’s likely only one part of a two album drop.

Internet sleuths on Reddit’s /Kendrick Lamar board have put together a pretty convincing argument. For what? That DAMN is about to get a follow-up named NATION.

The crux of the argument rests on this weekend’s religious significance. That DAMN dropped on Good Friday seems quite purposeful. NATION is then perhaps meant to drop on Sunday — Easter Sunday. That maybe album’s name isn’t a random guess either. DAMN.NATION: a longform exploration of politics, culture, and self. It’s an idea that fits right into Lamar’s wheelhouse, and he has the street and commercial cred to pull off a double album. There are more “theories” on the board, but I personally find the Good Friday/Easter idea the most convincing.

Someone who did do a double album drop recently: Frank Ocean, whose Endless and Blonde releases were a highlight of last year. Maybe this is a microtrend, of artists exploring their in-song universes. Whatever the case, we’ll be keeping an ear out on Sunday. And if nothing comes, at least we have DAMN to jam to.
