Kendall Jenner has been ordered to pay a fine for her role in Fyre Festival

In April 2017, the social media realm was treated to an absolute dumpster fire of epic proportions. Musician Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland had promised young hopefuls a tropical weekend adventure filled with music, celebrities, and partying for the low, low price of $1,000 to $120,000. It was called Fyre Festival, and it seemingly had the potential to outshine Coachella and Bonnaroo as the next big music festival, with influencers like Kendall Jenner backing up its credibility via Instagram. But, sadly, Fyre Festival went up in flames mere hours into its debut, and now Jenner and other celebs are being forced to pay up for the lie they sold.

Yesterday, May 20th, Jenner settled in a U.S. Bankruptcy Court lawsuit, in which investors aimed to get their lost funds back.

Jenner was ordered to pay $90,000 for her now-deleted 2017 Instagram post in which she promoted the Fyre Festival.

This is a fraction of the $270,000 Jenner reportedly earned to create the original post. At the time, she did not disclose to her audience that the post was a paid advertisement.

According to WWD, court documents also state that Jenner falsely alluded that brother-in-law Kanye West would be performing at the now-defunct festival.

Jenner is one of several celebrities named in the lawsuit. Other celebrities mentioned include Emily Ratajkowski, Migos, Pusha T, and Lil Yachty.

Investigators found that McFarland initially raised $26 million from investors to fund Fyre Festival—most of which went to social media influencers like Jenner and musicians who failed to show as the festival started to unravel. McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison in March 2018 and must pay restitution for the $26 million.

Those involved are still feeling the burn from Fyre Festival 2K17. The rest of us are still shocked at how the entire thing went down. At least, at the end of the hot, tropical day, those who were at the helm are paying up and taking responsibility.
