Kelly Ripa Says Mark Consuelos’ Insane Jealousy Rattled Their Marriage
The 'Riverdale' actor says he's since learned how to temper his jealous behavior.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may be known for their PDA and gushy Instagram tributes, but it wasn’t always roses and rainbows. During the inaugural episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Ripa admitted Consuelos’ “pretty insane” jealousy-fueled behavior caused a rift in their marriage early on.
“My biggest complaint about you over the course of our marriage, and this is not recent because it definitely changed… but you used to be insanely jealous and that was a hard pill to swallow,” Ripa told Consuelos in her new Sirius XM podcast, which launched today. “It’s very hard being married to somebody who is jealous.”
The TV host said her husband’s true colors started to shine just one week after their 1996 wedding. Ripa recalled a date night during which an older gentleman “in his 70s if not 80s” addressed her by “principessa” while taking their order.

“I thought it was so cute that this little old man called me a princess, and I looked at him and I gave him my order in a very smiley way,” Ripa recalls, before addressing Consuelos, “And he walked away and you picked a horrible fight.”
The Riverdale actor fessed up to his behavior, noting he was “pretty insane” at “age 25.”
“It’s ugly. As ugly as it feels to the person who has to be on the receiving end of it, it’s such an ugly feeling inside. If this is any consolation, you know you’re being crazy,” Consuelos said. “The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it’s ugly, but they can’t help it.”
The couple agreed that Consuelos has since gotten his jealousy under control.
“I wanted to do some work on myself and that was one of the major things that I needed to work on because it was getting in the way,” Consuelos shared.
The pair, who are gearing up for their 27th wedding anniversary this May, share children Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19. Consuelos will also be joining Ripa in the co-host seat for Live With Kelly and Mark.
