Kelly Ripa is joining the Riverdale cast…as her IRL husband’s mistress
Kelly Ripa is officially moving to Riverdale. The Live with Kelly and Ryan host revealed on Instagram today, November 7th, that she’s joining the cast of the hit CW series—and she’ll be acting opposite her real-life husband, Mark Consuelos. According to Entertainment Weekly, Ripa will play a character named Mrs. Mulwray, mistress to Riverdale‘s resident bad dad and organized crime overlord, Hiram Lodge.
Ripa cheekily announced her casting alongside a photo from the set of the neo-noir teen drama. “It’s a family affair……..Hiram’s mistress. 23 years of auditioning for a role i was born to play. Coming soon to the @thecwriverdale,” she wrote.
Does Ripa not look totally at home on the Riverdale set?
The name Mrs. Mulwray may sound vaguely familiar to some—because Riverdale is going full Chinatown. Ripa’s character isa direct homagetoFaye Dunaway’s character (of the same name) in the classic noir film. Considering the writers of Riverdale love to make subtle (and more often, not-so-subtle) references, it was only a matter of time before they slipped in something like this.
Ripa’s casting makes her just the latest member of the family to join the Riverdale cast. Tonight, November 7th, Riverdale willfinally air its much-talked-about flashback episode, “The Midnight Club,” during which the “teen” cast will play their parents. In the episode, Consuelos and Ripa’s son Michael will literally step into his father’s footsteps, playing a young Hiram Lodge. (It really is a family affair.)
We seriously cannot wait to see this IRL couple light up our screens later this season on Riverdale.
