Kelly Clarkson Opened Up About How Her Kids Are Doing Amid Her Divorce
Clarkson and her ex are working with mental health professionals to "do it right."
Whether she’s updating viewers of her daytime talk show, or keeping things real during an interview, Kelly Clarkson is all about being open and transparent about what’s going on in her life. And during a recent sit down with Extra, Clarkson talked about how her kids are handling her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares daughter River Rose, 6, and son Remington Alexander, 4.
“It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too,'” Clarkson said during the October 12th interview. “It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore.”
She continued, We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists because we want to do it right…Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad.
“It’s really hard, but it is what it is,” Clarkson said, giving credit to her family and friends, like her The Voice costar Gwen Stefani (who went through her own divorce from Gavin Rossdale in 2016), for being there to support her.
Stefani, who also attended the Extra interview, jumped in, “Kelly and I have been talking about this a lot. We’re so lucky to have music as an outlet for everything we all go through. Music is such therapy when you’re a writer.”
I think it’s hard to be a public person, Stefani continued. Now you add in a family…they didn’t choose it.
But as Stefani said, Clarkson is doing “a really good job” at handling her split in a mature, calm, and healthy way. And being able to talk about it openly only seems to help matters rather than hinder healing.
