Kelly Clarkson had a date night with her husband during “Carpool Karaoke”

We have to bow down to James Corden, since he finally managed to get Kelly Clarkson on “Carpool Karaoke” — and let’s just say, the first American Idol winner totally nailed it.

Just like in typical “Carpool Karaoke” fashion, Clarkson climbed in Corden’s passenger seat and the two got started with a fun duet of “Since U Been Gone,” which — not to make you feel old — debuted in 2004. According to Clarkson herself, the song was “so dramatic” (but,  that’s kind of why we loved it.) Of course, the two also delved into a few current songs, like her recent single “Love So Soft.” Their portrayal was so perfect that we kind of think Corden should join Clarkson on tour.

It wasn’t just peppy songs that the two decided to sing — they also performed a beautiful rendition of “Because Of You” that only reminded us how long Clarkson has been in the spotlight for. She’s responsible for so many radio hits. But the slow, passionate song choice may have been why Corden felt inspired to invite Clarkson’s husband, Brandon Blackstock, along for the ride.

Since the two don’t get a ton of time together, the host of The Late Late Show thought it’d be a good idea to treat them to a romantic dinner, complete with roses, champagne, and a violin player. Also, no kids. A “Carpool Karaoke” first!

But Blackstock (hilariously) ruined the mood by saying he felt like they were “making a porn.”

The couple got married back in 2013, and have two children together — River Rose and Remington Alexander. Blackstock also has a son and a daughter from a previous relationship, named Seth and Savannah. So, we can imagine that it’s rare for the couple to get any private time together. (Not like we consider driving in a car with James Corden to be “private,” but you know what we mean.)

We’re hoping for more collaborations between Clarkson and Corden in the future — the two proved that they’re incredible with duets.
