Kelly Clarkson Claims Her Ex-Husband’s Company Defrauded Her Out of Millions

The singer filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock three months ago.

The saga between Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has gotten even more complicated. On Thursday, it was reported that the singer filed legal documents back in October alleging that Blackstock and his father’s management company, which represented her, defrauded her out of millions of dollars. According to the documents (which Us Weekly gained access to), Clarkson is claiming that Starstruck Management operated illegally in California, and so she believes she deserves to regain all the money she’d paid to her agent over the 13 years she’d worked with the company.

Per Us Weekly, the documents filed by Clarkson refer to her initial agreement with Starstruck as a “fraudulent and subterfuge device” in which her managers performed illegal actions, as they were allegedly not licensed in California to be agents. Clarkson is asking for all of her agreements with the company to be “declared void and unenforceable,” and that includes an agreement that Starstruck gets a 15% commission on her earnings.

Back in September, Blackstock’s father, Narvel, filed a lawsuit against Clarkson that claimed she owed his family’s company $1.4 million in unpaid commissions for her work on The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice. Responding to Clarkson’s new filings, a Starstruck lawyer told TMZ that Clarkson has actually been represented by a different agency, CAA, and that it is “unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings.”

Before Clarkson filed for divorce, she and Blackstock had been married for nearly seven years, and the exes have two young children: River, 6, and Remington, 4. Recently, Clarkson was awarded primary custody of the kids, although she and Blackstock will share joint physical and legal custody. The singer has been open about the family’s struggles this past year, telling writer Glennon Doyle earlier this month that going through a divorce has been “horrible.”

“There are so many hard parts,” Clarkson said on the November 30th episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “The hardest for me is the kids. I think, as women especially, we’re trained to take it all on and deal with it and you’re fine. But it’s your babies that you worry about.”

Back in September, Clarkson told the show’s audience members that “2020 has been a dumpster fire,” including in her personal life, noting that “divorce is never easy.” She added that she and Blackstock were focused on protecting their children, including his two kids from his first marriage: Savannah, 18, and Seth, 13.

Here’s hoping that Clarkson and Blackstock are able to work out their issues and that their family is able to heal from what undoubtedly has been a very tough year.
