Just Kelly Clarkson with her baby, dropping more body image wisdom
Our favorite pop stars also double as role models. We want to sing like them AND be like them. And when it comes to singing like an angel and role modeling like a boss, Kelly Clarkson is the pop star to beat.
She recently gave an interview with Redbook (she’s the mag’s May cover girl) in which she responded to the people who have been policing her weight for basically her entire career.
“I don’t obsess about my weight, which is probably one of the reasons why other people have such a problem with it,” she says re: her haters.
“There are just some people who are born skinny and with a great metabolism–that is not me. I wish I had a better metabolism. But someone else probably wishes they could walk into a room and make friends with everyone like I can. You always want what someone else has.”
I love that the positive attribute she picked is her social butterfly approach to life and not her PIPES SENT STRAIGHT FROM HEAVEN. But it’s okay, Kelly, you’re allowed to have several things that people are jealous of, so keep on being super talented and super fun to be around.
What’s really great about what Kelly says is she doesn’t pretend to be immune to insecurity and jealousy, but she does explain how she keeps these completely normal feelings in check. We’re all going to feel insecure and jealous at various points in our lives, that’s part of being alive and human. What we can’t do, however, is let this negativity drag us down and define us.
Thanks Kelly for being so wonderfully body positive and such an amazing role model for us all! Bonus plus, you and your baby are the most beautiful ever!
