In #girlboss news: Kelly Clarkson hosted the BBMAs with appendicitis—and flew home for surgery directly after

Kelly Clarkson hosted the 2019 Billboard Music Awards (for the second year in a row) and, as expected, she slayed. But the next day, Clarkson revealed she had emergency surgery immediately after the show. It turns out she was battling appendicitis the entire time.

On Thursday, May 2nd, BuzzFeed editor Jarett Wieselman tweeted that Clarkson had been “suffering from appendicitis all week” and underwent an appendectomy hours after the show in Las Vegas, writing, “last night she flawlessly hosted an award show and sang two songs without showing any sign of discomfort.”

The singer responded to the tweet, writing, “Not gonna lie…I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain,” and thanked the team at the Los Angeles hospital where she had surgery, writing, “I flew home directly after the event, nailed the surgery early this morning, & feeling awesome now! Bye bye appendix,” capping her tweet off with the hashtag “#TheShowMustGoOn.”

Of course, Clarkson did a fabulous job not only as the host of the show, but also during two performances—she did a flawless medley of 13 hits from the past year as well as a few throwback tunes, and also performed a song from the UglyDolls soundtrack.

We’re glad Clarkson is on the mend, and we’re sending all our healing vibes to her for a speedy recovery.
