Keke Palmer has some refreshing words about sexuality

While Keke Palmer has been killing it (almost literally) on Scream Queens, don’t forget that she’s a super talented musician as well. Now that the first season has wrapped up, Palmer is focusing on her music, including releasing a music video for her single “I Don’t Belong To You” that’s got a lot of people talking.

The video is a dreamy, black-and-white haze while Palmer sings an anthem of independence. The video begins with a man whose bed she’s leaving and ends with Palmer entering the house of a woman who she is also seeing. This sparked a lot of questions, mainly, was this video her way of coming out?

According to Palmer, it’s not that simple. She told People“The video was to represent the young woman today – it’s not the traditional woman anymore – and not the specifics of ‘Am I gay? Am I straight? Am I bi?’” When it comes to her own sexuality, her message is loud and clear. “I’m making the rules for myself,” she explains. “And I don’t have to be stuck down to one label.”

We love Palmer’s honesty and openness about her sexuality, especially how she takes the emphasis off feeling like you need to fit into a specific box when it comes to how you feel. All that matters is that you’re comfortable and happy.
