Katy Perry hopes others can learn from her feud with Taylor Swift

After years of being sworn enemies, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have made peace at last and are baking each other cookies to prove it. If there was any doubt that these two have ended their beef, Perry even appeared in the “You Need to Calm Down” music video, dressed as the burger to Swift’s fries. Now, Perry has shared how she and Swift reconciled, and how she hopes others can learn from their feud.

On July 17th, the “Never Really Over” singer called into the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Australia’s KIIS 106.5. While on the air, she explained how she and Swift had reached their newfound understanding, starting with the time she sent Swift a literal olive branch before Swift’s Reputation World Tour. Perry said she included an apology along with the symbolic offering, noting, “I just thought she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support.”

"Truly it was as I was finishing [my tour that] I realized how much we have in common and maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from and that we should celebrate our commonality, our friendship, and to be able to be there for each other," Perry said.

She recalled that after the olive branch gesture, she apologized to Swift at a party. Later, they started talking again, and Swift baked cookies for Perry, which were apparently “delicious.” The rest, as they say, is history.

But Perry also reflected on the impact that her feud with Swift had on others. She said that if Swift hadn’t been so receptive, she would have let it go anyway.

"I think that both her and I, we have influence to young people and especially young girls who are in this type of situation day in and day out at school," she said.

"It’s amazing that we’ve had this opportunity to change and I just hope that other people can learn from it, too," she added.

All’s well that ends well. We’re glad Swift and Perry have made up, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll see a collab from these two in the future.
