Katy Perry says Josh Groban is the “one that got away,” and we want to know everything

Katy Perry has been live-streaming her life for the past three days to promote her new album, Witness, and it’s safe to say that we know more about the pop star than we ever knew before. BUT, we have to say, a more interesting tidbit was the reveal of who inspired her hit song, “The One That Got Away,” and it might not be who you guessed.

During an interview with James Corden about her past loves, Katy was asked to rank three of her celebrity ex-boyfriends — Diplo, John Mayer, and Orlando Bloom — from best to worst based on their sexual performance. While struggling to come up with a response, she mentioned that she felt one of her other exes, Josh Groban, should actually be in her top three.

Corden had our reaction. Wait, what?

“Groban? Did he raise you up?” Corden asks in reference to Groban’s song, “You Raise Me Up.”

“I didn’t know about Groban.”

“I do want to say,” Perry continues, “people are like, ‘So, who is ‘The One That Got Away’ about?’ That’s Groban.” She added that he is one of her good friends currently. Okay, okay, okay. Fine.

We had no idea these two dated! But with a little research, we’ve found that Groban once hinted at it, more or less, in an interview.

While sitting down with Details in 2013, Groban said, “We’re very good friends. We met before her first album was even released, and we hit it off because we’re both goofballs. We might have skated on the line of dating.” Hmm. Interesting.

Well, at any rate, she can at least be happy knowing that her album, Witness, is killing it on the charts. According to Billboard, the singer’s fifth studio album could hit number one within a few days.

Go Katy! We love you.
