Katy Perry revealed how Orlando Bloom proposed, and it sounds both epic and awkward

One doesn’t merely ask Katy Perry—one of the world’s most beloved pop stars—to marry them. One must make it amazing. At least, that’s what Orlando Bloom did. Perry went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week to spill the tea about her engagement, and it sounds like her beau did exceptionally well. The Lord of the Rings actor popped the question on Valentine’s Day 2019…by surprising Perry with a helicopter ride and mid-air proposal.

"We went to dinner and I thought we were gonna go and see some art after dinner but we pulled up to a helicopter," Perry recounted. "It was really sweet; he asked me to marry him in a helicopter."

However, there was also a minor snag. “Actually, the funny part is, we had champagne in the helicopter and the box was in his pocket and he had written down everything he wanted to say in a note to divert,” she continued. “He was gonna pull it out while I’m reading it. So I’m reading it but I’m hearing, like, the champagne is broken, the bottle’s everywhere, and I’m still looking at the note but he’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket. It rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne.”

Okay, so everything went almost according to plan. Still, Bloom redeemed himself when the helicopter landed on a rooftop with all of Perry’s family and friends.

"He did so well," Perry said.

Perry also shared some other tidbits about their relationship, including the fact that they “bonded over an In-n-Out burger” (she asked him “how those onions were resting on his molars”—a classic pick-up line) and that she provided some input on her engagement ring.
