Katy Perry’s Grammy plans are what we all want to do on a Monday night
Award show season, we love thee so. The Grammys are on Monday night, and the competition is fierce. While we hate the idea of Taylor Swift going up against Ed Sheeran, we love how many talented artists are being recognized. Chances are you’ll be watching the Grammys on the couch, ooh-ing and ahh-ing over red carpet looks, making last-minute predictions, and celebrating (or lamenting) the winners as they’re announced. You know who else will be? Katy Perry.
This year, Katy is skipping the Grammys. Instead she plans to watch the show on TV from the comforts of home like the rest of us mere mortals. And her plans sound amazing. Katy told The New York Times that “[I’ll be] in my pajamas, eating matzo ball soup. No makeup, glad I’m not in a corset. Vicks cream on.”
She isn’t opting out of Grammys weekend completely, though. Tonight she’s hosting a huge artist-only bash. Katy’s event is a black-tie dinner for just the creators: artists, producers and songwriters. No managers, publicists or press allowed. The singer is hoping to create an environment where musicians can have genuine uninterrupted conversations. Ones that people actually enjoy, and don’t leave them totally drained by the end of the night.
“Artists are always looking for a way to connect with each other, but we don’t get that authentic connection because we’re either being pulled or pushed,” Katy said.
The dinner is sponsored by Spotify and Katy’s co-hosts include Sia, Missy Elliott and producer Greg Kurstin. Guests will be treated to performances by Sia and Jack Garratt. About 250 of music’s finest are invited, including Adele and Taylor Swift. Yes, you read that correctly—Katy extended an invite to Taylor, but didn’t make a big deal out of it, saying that whether or not she comes just depends on her schedule.
“It’s a mixture of new and familiar artists, a combination of the past two years’ Grammy nominees and also [acts] from the Spotify Discover playlist,” she continued. “In some ways, I’m trying to start the Met Ball of music.”
So when you tune in to the show, just know that Katy is doing exactly the same thing you’re doing. We kinda wish she was attending the ceremony, though, because her reactions to Taylor Swift winning (or losing) Grammys would certainly be GIF-able.
