Here’s what Katie Holmes has to say about the idea of a “Dawson’s Creek” reunion

For those of us who wanted to BE Joey Potter circa 1999, Katie Holmes was easy to idolize. She made sarcasm, wit, ambition, and uncertainty about life as a teenager not only normal for preteen- and teen-girl viewers — she made them kind of cool. Holmes was one of the four main stars of Dawson’s Creek and, in fact, she was the only cast member to appear in all 128 episodes.

And though we Creek Geeks would pretty much kill for a revival a la Fuller House and Gilmore Girls, it just might not be in the cards. In an interview with the TODAY show this week to promote her new film Touched with Fire (which looks amazing, by the way), Holmes shared her thoughts on why a revival might not really make much sense for The WB’s most iconic series.

“When I look back at the show, it had a certain charm,” she told the TODAY show. “It was before the Internet really took over, it was before iPhones, it was before this kind of new form of communication, and it had this certain feeling that was of the ’90s. I don’t think that in today’s world, you could achieve that same kind of feeling.”

As much as it hurts my CreekFan4Lyfe heart (no, really, favorite show of all time), I know deep down that she’s right. There are some things that were kind of driven by the times, and I think Dawson’s Creek was one of them. The Savage Garden/Paula Cole/Edwin McCain-fueled soundtrack, the absence of newer technology (even by 1998 standards), the emphasis on raw teen angst, climbing through each other’s windows – and we can’t forget Pacey’s frosted tips in season 2. It definitely just wouldn’t work today, as much as we’d like it to.

“They text all the time,” Holmes adds jokingly when asked if she thinks the characters would still keep in contact today, whether it be over Facebook or otherwise. “Like the rest of us, they’re texting to each other while they’re sitting with each other.”

We’re sad we might never get answers to our most burning Creek questions (Did Pacey and Joey ever marry? Did Dawson become a huge director a la Steven Spielberg? Did Jack and Doug raise Jen’s daughter Amy and live happily ever after?), but for now we’d settle for the original series coming back to Netflix. *Singing* We don’t wanna wait, for our Creek binge-watching to be over, we want to know right now, why won’t it stream?
