Katherine Heigl Has Some Thoughts on That Izzie and Alex Storyline on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

She also commented on whether or not she'll make a cameo in the future...

Katherine Heigl hasn’t been watching Grey’s Anatomy lately, but she still has some thoughts about the recent episodes. Heigl, who played Izzie Stevens in the series from 2005 to 2010 and hasn’t returned since, talked with ET Online on January 27th about her character’s recent resurgence in the storyline. Fair warning, spoilers are ahead.

In Season 16, star Alex Karev (played by Justin Chambers) suddenly disappeared, and later explained in a letter that he’d found his ex-wife, Heigl’s character Izzie, and had reunited with her to raise his children. After having this new plot development explained, Heigl responded, “Wasn’t he with someone?” Then, the interviewer told her that Alex had left his then-wife Jo to go back to Izzie. “That’s an A-hole move,” Heigl said, laughing.

Heigl also addressed whether or not she would return for a cameo on the show, perhaps in a dream, like Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George O’Malley (TR Knight) have done this season. “I’m super focused on this show and my passion for it,” she said about her upcoming Netflix series Firefly Lane. “I would never say never but it’s not likely.” Grey’s showrunner Krista Vernoff expressed a similar sentiment in a recent interview with Deadline, saying that a return for Izzie or Alex was still a possibility.

Right now, though, Heigl is putting her energy into Firefly Lane, a drama about two women in their 30s who have been best friends since they were young girls. You can watch the trailer for the new show, which some are saying “looks like Sweet Magnolias meets This Is Us,” below.

Firefly Lane hits Netflix on February 3rd.
