Kate Winslet says this is the film role she wants to reprise
It’s no secret that Kate Winslet has played some incredible roles in her prestigious film career — she does have an Oscar, after all! Winslet recently spoke at the New York Film Festival and revealed which role she’d like to play again. And it’s not what we were expecting.
The actress didn’t name her award-winning performance of Hanna Schmitz in The Reader. Nor did she mention one of her most iconic roles, Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic. Nope — according to Entertainment Weekly, the character Winslet would most want to play again is Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Remember Clementine? Her hair was always a different rainbow shade? And she fell in love with Jim Carrey’s character in the 2004 drama? Well, Winslet thinks about Clementine a lot, and she opened up about why she’d love to play her again someday.
“She’s one I’d love to play again because it was just so much fun, Winslet said on stage, according to EW. “And the possibilities for the hair colors were just endless. Wouldn’t you like to see Clementine as a 42-year-old woman? I’d love to know what happened to her. I love the idea that she just let herself get really fat and just totally let go of her hangups about her body and just indulged in everything that made her feel happy. And more hair colors and more crazy clothes! I just think that could’ve been fun.
Sadly, that character revival is most likely a pipe dream, even though an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind TV series may be in the works.
But you can still get your Kate Winslet fix in movie theaters before the end of the year.
Winslet’s most recent flick is Amazon Studios’ Wonder Wheel, and it comes out as a limited release on December 1st. Winslet plays a 1950s Coney Island waitress named Ginny, a former actress married to a carousel operator (Jim Belushi). The Woody Allen film, which debuted at the NYFF, received mixed reviews. But Winslet’s performance was heavily praised, called a “career high” by some, EW reports.
We’ll definitely be watching that one!
