Kate Winslet also thinks Leo deserves an Oscar already

Repeat after me: This is Leo’s year. This is Leo’s year.

Leonardo DiCaprio has played some incredible characters through the years, but has yet to be recognized as the best of the best by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This year, he’s nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant. And something tells us that THIS is finally his year.

We held our collective breath the last time Leo almost won for his work as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, but lost to Matthew McConaughey (who was still totally deserving of the honor). This year, the buzz is already at an all-time high, and the ceremony isn’t for another month and a half. Kate Winslet recently spoke up, agreeing that there’s something special in the air this year for Leo.

“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for him,” she told BBC News at the London Critics Circle Film Awards. “It would be amazing.”

Through the years, Leo has been nominated for five Oscars, ranging from Best Actor (The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Wolf of Wall Street) to Best Supporting Actor (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) to Best Picture (The Wolf of Wall Street) as a producer.

As much as Kate wants to support the Jack Dawson to her Rose DeWitt Bukater, her loyalties also lie elsewhere: with her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender, who is also nominated for the Best Actor trophy.

“It’s slightly difficult for me too, because Michael Fassbender has been nominated, and I was his right-hand woman for three months while we were making Steve Jobs and I saw how hard he worked,” she continued diplomatically “I think his performance is so extraordinary.”

The competition for the title is seriously stiff. Besides being up against Michael Fassbender, Leo also faces first-time nominee Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), this year’s Golden Globe winner Matt Damon (The Martian) and last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl). We’d be happy to see any of these amazing actors win! But we’re kiiind of inclined to agree with Kate—this year feels different for Leo.

“You can sort of feel the temperature,” she said. “It’s probably going to be Leo’s year.”

We just want to see Leo win an Oscar (or two or six) before he’s old enough to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement award!
