Kate Winslet just dropped some body image wisdom for young girls
Not only is Kate Winslet one of the great actresses of her generation, but she’s also always been a bit of an icon among admirers of curvaceous, body positive women in Hollywood.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 40-year-old award-winning actress — who currently stars in the newest Steve Jobs biopic — expressed her wish that young girls not get carried away by the apparent glamor of women in Hollywood.
“You know, we walk down red carpets. You know, it’s part of the job,” Winslet says. “But I think I feel very strongly that it’s important to also say to young girls that we don’t look like that all the time.”
She also touched on how she was bullied as a child for her “stocky” appearance, saying “I was teased for how I looked.”
Well, three Golden Globes, one Oscar, one Emmy, and a Grammy Award later, Winslet is not only one Tony short of an EGOT, but has also found herself in a position to promote body positivity, like when she revealed that she has a “no retouching” clause in her contract with beauty company L’Oréal.
“It does feel important to me, because I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women,” Winslet said at Elle’s Women In Hollywood event last fall. “I think they do look to women who have been successful in their chosen careers and they want people to look up to, and I would always want to be telling the truth about who I am to that generation because they’ve got to have strong leaders. We’re all responsible for raising strong young women, so these are things that are important to me.”
Right on, Kate.
