Kate Upton just made it VERY clear that fashion is not reality

We KNOW that fashion magazine spreads, clothing and makeup ads, and Kardashian Instagram posts don’t represent reality. These images have entire glam squads working behind the scenes to present an illusion of perfection — not to mention talented photographers, strategic lighting, and generous amounts of Photoshop. We understand these images are beautiful illusions, but that doesn’t mean we don’t find ourselves thinking, Why can’t I look like that? Is there something wrong with me? when we see them.

Sometimes it takes seeing that illusion side-by-side with reality to drive the point home, which is exactly the gift supermodel Kate Upton just gave us in the form of this Instagram post:

On the right is Kate striking a pose in an elevator for a photoshoot. She looks amazing, right? Perfect hair, makeup, on-point outfit, killer lighting, flawless editing. On the left is Real Life Kate in an elevator. This Kate looks amazing too, but she also looks, well, real. Gym clothes. Hair in a ponytail. Fluorescent lighting and an iPhone camera. Pretty much like us every single day.

The difference between the two photos is pretty staggering, right? Kate is drop-dead gorgeous in both shots, but it just goes to show that even supermodels don’t look like supermodels IRL!
