Kate Middleton and Prince William reminded us of the importance of mental well-being amid the coronavirus pandemic

It’s no secret that the current state of the world is taking a toll on our mental health. As we practice social distancing and adjust to a new way of living during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it’s normal to feel stressed, anxious, and scared. But Kate Middleton and Prince William want to remind us that taking care of our mental well-being is as crucial for getting through this difficult time as washing our hands and staying home.

Over the weekend, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released a joint statement in which they called out the importance of maintaining mental well-being during these trying days.

“The last few weeks have been anxious and unsettling for everyone,” the Duke and Duchess said in a statement, according to The Telegraph. “We have to take time to support each other and find ways to look after our mental health.”

The royals also released a statement on the Kensington Palace Instagram account, writing, “Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health. [In] recent weeks The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organizations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.”

They continued by announcing the launch of a coronavirus-specific package on the online platform Every Mind Matters.

“Public Health England has published new guidance to help support people during the COVID-19 outbreak, and updated its world-leading Every Mind Matters platform with specific advice on maintaining good mental well-being during the outbreak.”

Of the platform, the Duke and Duchess said, “It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental well-being. By pulling together and taking simple steps each day, we can all be better prepared for the times ahead.”

Everyone in the world has been affected by the coronavirus, but the royal family is one of many families experiencing it firsthand.

William and Harry’s father, Prince Charles, tested positive for coronavirus on March 25th. We can imagine that having a loved one with coronavirus only amplifies the strain on mental health. It’s innovative tools like these that will help us get through this challenging time.

The Kensington Palace Instagram account also recently posted a video of Kate and William’s three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—joining many others across social media in cheering on the healthcare workers fighting against the coronavirus.

The caption read: “To all the doctors, nurses, carers, GPs, pharmacists, volunteers, and other NHS staff working tirelessly to help those affected by #COVID19: thank you. #ClapForOurCarers #ClapForCarers#ThankYouNHS #ClapForNHS.”

As we all collectively navigate through these unprecedented days, it’s vital to prioritize our mental health. It’s comforting to know that organizations and leaders are making it their top priority and reminding us to do the same.
