Kate Middleton and Prince William are living our dreams in their new Christmas TV special
For many of us, the most British thing about this time of year is the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show we watch to calm down when the chaos of the season gets to be too much. But this year, the holidays are getting way more British. Kate Middleton and Prince William are teaming up with former Great British Baking Show host Mary Berry to bring us a Christmas special called A Berry Royal Christmas. Just like everyone’s favorite British baking show, the inevitably well-mannered Christmas special is sure to be soothing to watch. Basically, it’s the soft entertainment therapy we all need during this time of the year.
The royals sent an e-vite of sorts, inviting fans via an Instagram post to join Mary Berry and themselves as they, “serve a festive feast to thank those who are spending their Christmas helping others.”
The special will feature the posh trio across “four engagements” of charitable baking and party hosting. As explained in another post, these engagements center around different causes and organizations that the royals choose to support, including The Passage, the U.K.’s largest resource for homeless and insecurely housed people, and Action for Addiction, a dry bar established to create a safe space for people suffering from addiction.
For all the dedicated GBBO fans out there, another familiar face will also be making an appearance. Season 6 winner Nadiya Hussain will help Berry and the royals host a thank-you party for the staff and volunteers of various charities and organizations. (You may remember her by her winning “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” showstopper cake.) And yes, we’re pretty sure that’s Mary Berry’s Buche de Noel that the group of iconic Brits are all holding.
Even the Scroogiest of Scrooges won’t be able to watch this TV event without feeling a little bit of Christmas cheer. So go on, sit your soggy bottoms (sorry, Paul Hollywood) on the couch and let this lovely little Christmas TV special soothe your frosty soul.
A Berry Royal Christmas is set to air on BBC One on December 16th. It’s yet to be announced exactly where we in the U.S. we’ll be able to watch, but we have our fingers crossed for a mini Christmas miracle (ahem, looking at you, Netflix).
