Meghan Markle Drama Kept Kate Middleton from a Final Goodbye with the Queen
A royal biographer says Middleton has "resentment" over the decision.
Kate Middleton was denied a final goodbye with the Queen of England — and she’s blaming Meghan Markle for it.
That’s according to a royal source who spoke with the Daily Mail. According to the British newspaper, the Princess of Wales “resents” the Duchess of Sussex because she had to stay away from Balmoral when Queen Elizabeth II was on her deathbed in September of 2022.
The 41-year-old wife to Prince William was reportedly told by her father-in-law King Charles that she should stay home and tend to the children and that wives weren’t welcome.
But according to biographer Robert Jobson in his latest book Our King, that the real reason was that King Charles didn’t want his younger son’s wife, Meghan Markle, 37, in attendance but couldn’t tell Prince Harry that.
“The King said it was only for the children and the grandchildren to be with the Queen,” Jobson tells the Daily Mail, “and Charles stressed that it was not appropriate for wives to attend,” even though Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie Wessex did.
Charles planned for Kate not to attend so that Meghan wouldn’t either. But Kate was upset she couldn’t be there. Her husband and other royal family members made it to Scotland in time to bid farewell to the Queen, who died at age 96 — but Harry, who was coming from Los Angeles, did not.

The relationship between Middleton and Markle has been strained for some time — especially since the couple relinquished their royal duties to move to the United States — and released a telling Netflix docuseries, an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey, and Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, all of which didn’t paint the other royals in a good light.
The upcoming coronation has also been a source of contention, as well as Wills and Kate reportedly snubbing the baptism of Harry and Meghan’s youngest child in March.
There’s even been a documentary on the royal wives’ reported feud called Kate Vs. Meghan: Princesses at War?, which pinpoints incidents like comments Markle supposedly made over a flower girl dress for the Sussex’s wedding in 2018 that left Kate in tears.
The women were once neighbors in Kensington Palace and were said to be friends, but no word yet on if this royal ‘war’ will end anytime soon.
