Kate Middleton beats the winter blues in a cobalt coat for her first public appearance of 2017
On a dreary January day, most of us are content to rock all black or all grey. But not Kate Middleton, of course. The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a stunning royal blue coat dress for her first public appearance of 2017, gorgeously squashing any sign of the “winter blues.”
The Duchess put the “royal” in royal blue when she stepped out wearing a coat dress by British brand Eponine London today, and we are swooning. She always looks fabulous, of course, but this head-turning look is the perfect antidote to the January blues. It also marks Kate’s first official engagement of the year, proving that 2017 is sure to be another banner year of fashion for her.
As per usual, Kate accessorized the coat dress brilliantly, adding “blue suede Rupert Sanderson pumps and a Stuart Weitzman clutch,” according to E! News. She wore her hair in her signature soft waves and added a statement watch to tie the look together.
The independent British label was “thrilled” to have the Duchess wear their design, after she previously wore a red skirt suit by the brand in March of last year. Eponine London’s designer and founder Jet Shenkman told The Telegraph “I am so thrilled to see the duchess wearing Eponine again. She looks beautiful as ever.”
Kate’s first appearance of the year was a very important one, as she and Prince William stopped by the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families in London.
According to E! News, the Duke and Duchess visited the Early Years Parenting Unit “to learn more about the facility’s work with families that have children under five years old.” During her visit, Kate listened to mothers speak about their family history of addiction. Kate reportedly told the group: “Parenting is tough, and with the history and all the things and the experiences you’ve all witnessed, to do that on top of your own anxieties, and the lack of support you also received as mothers…I find it extraordinary how you’ve managed actually. So really well done.”
Their second stop of the day took the couple to the Child Bereavement U.K. Center to mark the center’s one-year anniversary, according to Kensington Palace’s official Instagram. The center “provides support for children and families when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.” A truly wonderful way to start the year, indeed.
