Kate Beckinsale and Sarah Silverman are the definition of mature about dating the same guy
Running into your boyfriend’s ex usually never ends well. Or at the very least, it’s painfully awkward. That’s why we’re all in awe of how cool Kate Beckinsale is about Sarah Silverman dating Michael Sheen, her ex and father of their 17-year-old daughter, Lily. Not only did Beckinsale and Silverman share a precious hug on the red carpet during the premiere of Beckinsale’s film Love & Friendship, but Beckinsale had nothing but effusive things to say about the comedian during a visit on The Talk.
“We get on really well. I mean, I love Sarah,” Kate said on the show. “I’d love her if she didn’t have anything to do with Michael. I’m just glad Michael found her.”
Silverman and Sheen were both at the premiere to support Beckinsale’s role of Lady Susan Vernon in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s posthumous novel. Sheen, who stars on Master of Sex, has been dating Silverman for the past two years, commencing their relationship more than a decade after Sheen and Beckinsale split in 2003.
Not only is Beckinsale clearly fond of Silverman, she is also grateful to her for serving as another strong female role model in her daughter’s life.
“I love that my daughter’s got different options than just me,” she said. “Like a good, strong, core woman that isn’t necessarily me.”
In an interview with Stylist, Beckinsale echoes this sentiment, and talks about why she doesn’t understand why the public is so shocked about their camaraderie.
“I don’t think any of us were thinking, ‘This is a huge achievement we’re not punching each other,’” Beckinsale said. “I’m completely open to any other strong, cool sensitive independent-thinking women who are going to be an influence in my daughter’s life. Sarah’s a great person and I’m glad she’s in the village that’s helping.”
Beckinsale and Sheen also are role models when it comes to being true friends with your ex. Just a few days ago, Beckinsale shared an amazing recreation of Lily’s birth photo on Instagram with Sheen in honor of her birthday.
Sounds like we all need to sit down and take some tips from Beckinsale on managing a breakup with grace and class.
