Kate Beckinsale got mistaken for Kate Middleton—and she just rolled with it
Celebrity mix-ups happen all the time. Maybe you’ve struggled to tell Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard apart, or maybe you’ve been convinced that Keira Knightley is actually Natalie Portman on multiple occasions. And it looks like we have a new twinning situation: Kate Beckinsale was recently confused for the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Thankfully, the actress took the case of mistaken identity in stride—with a hilarious Instagram post, no less.
On January 27th, Beckinsale shared that she had been hospitalized for a ruptured ovarian cyst. She posted a picture of herself from the hospital with a breathing tube inserted in her nose and opened up about the scary medical incident. Luckily, she’s okay now, but at the time, she wrote that she was in a lot of pain.
"Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry, she captioned her post. "So thankful to everyone who looked after me #wobbly❤️"
Beckinsale’s condition was widely reported, and many fans sent her wishes for a speedy recovery. But one article about the actress’s hospitalization caught her eye. USA Today first used a picture of Middleton to accompany its story about her. Beckinsale shared a screenshot of the article in a January 30th Instagram post, along with an update on her condition.
"So moved and touched by all the kind wishes I have received over the last few days and staggered by the similar and worse stories my #cysters have been sending me," she wrote. "I am feeling much better and I hope all the other girls going through it are too."
But the Underworld star couldn’t resist joking about the mistake.
"Back to resume my royal duties," she added. "William says hi."
We can kind of see why USA Today might mistake Middleton and Beckinsale. They’re both British brunettes named Kate who often sport shiny waves, and if you squint, they do look a bit alike. The newspaper caught its error and swapped out the pictures, so it seems that all’s well that ends well. Now we just wonder what the duchess has to say about this.
