Kate Beckinsale’s daughter just got into college — and Michael Sheen’s response is giving us all the dad feels
Is there anything more uplifting than the pride a parent feels for their child?
Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen’s daughter Lily experienced this quite literally on Thursday, December 15th, when she received that nice, fat letter from the college of her choice. Not only did her parents “burst into tears” when they learned the happy news, but her doting dad physically lifted both his daughter and his ex-girlfriend-slash-co-parent off the ground in celebration.
“The appropriate fatherly response when you find out your girl got into college : burst into tears ,drop everything ,rush over and pick up everyone even remotely involved,” Kate wrote on Instagram. “@lily_beckinsale we are so unbelievably proud of you . Fly fly fly ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
The Masters of Sex and Underworld stars dated from 1995 until 2003, welcoming Lily, their only child, in 1999. Beckinsale just finalized her divorce from director Len Wiseman and is seemingly enjoying the single life, while Sheen has been dating Sarah Silverman since 2014 — but despite not being in romantic love with each other, the former couple is seriously goals when it comes to being in love with parenting their daughter.
And for what it’s worth, Beckinsale has been pretty freaking awesome when it comes to her ex’s relationship with Silverman. When the two were snapped hugging on a red carpet earlier this year, Beckinsale explained to the ladies of The Talk that she was “basically family” with Sheen and Silverman, and that she was glad to have Silverman in Lily’s life.
“I’m completely open to any other strong, cool sensitive independent-thinking women who are going to be an influence in my daughter’s life,” she said. “Sarah’s a great person and I’m glad she’s in the village that’s helping. It’s important as a teenager to have good women in your life building up the fabric of your experience of becoming a woman. Even if Sarah wasn’t Michael’s girlfriend I’d want her to be in that.”
Even with Silverman’s help, though, Sheen and Beckinsale didn’t get what they wanted when it comes to Lily’s choice in career — despite her parents’ wishes, she intends to study acting.
“She’s going to go to drama college,” Beckinsale said with a laugh, adding that the parents and friends had “failed horribly.”
Judging off of Instagram alone, that is not how Lily’s parents truly feel.
