Karlie Kloss revealed she was once called “too fat” and “too skinny” by casting agents — on the same day

We’ve often discussed the unrealistic standards and expectations of the modeling industry when it comes to body image and weight, but it seems things are becoming darn near impossible. While speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, model (and Taylor Swift bestie) Karlie Kloss revealed she was called “too fat” and “too skinny” by a casting agent…on the same day!

Karlie has been in the industry for almost 10 years, and has worked with everyone from Victoria’s Secret to Marc Jacobs. And even though we think she’s perfect as she is — no matter what her size — that doesn’t mean Karlie hasn’t experienced body-shaming first hand.

Apparently, there is no escaping the fashion industry’s hurtful and nonsensical comments, even if you are an international supermodel.

During the discussion, Kloss sat across from Hearst Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles as she described her experience. She said,

"I was called both too fat and too thin by a casting agent on the same day!"

She went on to add that she hopes female designers will start focusing on creating clothes for a wider variety of shapes and sizes.

Despite having to deal with the constant criticism, Kloss says she pushes forward by focusing on her health, above any “perfect” size or weight “goal”:

“I don’t want to please anyone but myself. she added.

The rest of the conversation focused on a much more positive topic. Karlie, who has shared her passion for coding in the past, talked about the “Kode With Klossy” computer science summer camps for young girls she created last year.

She said, “At my core, I am totally a nerd. I love understanding how things work.” She also added that computer science “is not the sexiest thing,” but that “I am so passionate about it, and it is genuine.”

We’re honestly a little impressed at how Karlie has managed to navigate the industry’s unrealistic standards by focusing on simply being healthy and her passions. Kudos to you, girl!
