Justin Bieber really, really tried to cover up his Selena Gomez tattoo
Justin Bieber has a lot of tattoos. In fact, he’s lost count of the number. He started his tattoo collection slowly in his late teens, carefully placing his ink in places that people wouldn’t see. But as he got older, he began to ink more freely. Now, the singer has dozens and dozens of tats that span his arms, torso, back and legs.
The Biebs recently sat down with GQ and shared some of his favorite tattoos and the meaning behind each. No tat was off limits. The first one he ever got was of a tiny seagull who he says “wanted to be more than just a seagull.” He also has a letter “X” as a symbol of the unknown, and the letter “G” in honor of his friend’s sick daughter. Most recently, he added wings to the back of his neck.
Justin has some ink that honors his mom Pattie, including a tattoo of her eye on his forearm and her birthday written out in roman numerals on his chest. He also has a matching tattoo with his dad Jeremy.
And then there’s one tattoo that’s hard to miss. It features a girl with long, dark hair, sitting angelically under a fish. It’s in a very prominent place—on top of his left wrist. And now that we know it’s there, it will always be the first thing we notice about him. Why? Because that girl is Selena Gomez.
“Uhh, this is my ex-girlfriend,” he tells the camera. “So I kinda tried to cover her face up with some shading, but people still know.”
Oh yes, Justin, we know. But the Selena tattoo is nothing to be ashamed of—tattoos are symbols that remind us of memories. When he looks down and sees the ink, it likely takes him back to a happy time in his past. Selena and Justin were very important to each other, and there’s nothing wrong with remembering the good times for what they were—good times.
Check out the rest of Justin’s tattoos in this GQ video! Even if you aren’t into ink, it’s a great excuse to ogle at his shirtless bod for a few minutes.
