Justin Bieber won’t be taking any more fan photos and we totally support him
Part of being famous is interacting with your dedicated fans, but the moment that starts to affect your mental health, it’s totally okay to take a step back. That’s what Justin Bieber is doing per an Instagram he posted last night. The singer announced that he would no longer be taking fan photos because of how they make him feel and we completely understand.
“If you happen to see me out somewhere know that I’m not gonna take a picture,” the post, which is a screenshot of a note, begins. “I’m done taking pictures. It has gotten to the point that people won’t even say hi to me or recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity.”
This is a totally reasonable request. We can’t imagine how hard it is to constantly be in the spotlight, even if fame does have its perks. He continues:
While many people reacted with understanding, other people lashed out at Justin rather unkindly the news. Justin addressed one of these comments in a follow-up post:
“If you think setting boundaries is being a douche I’m the biggest douche around but I think it’s smart and will be the only way I last,” he wrote in response to the disgruntled fan. “I’m going to keep making decisions I feel are fit for my growth and no human being will make me feel bad for it.”
Color us very impressed. While Justin knows this news isn’t what the fans want to hear, his mental well-being is what’s most important. Just like Amy Schumer, who also recently asked fans to respect her wishes when she refuses to take a photo, we are proud of him for making this difficult decision and for recognizing his own boundaries. Being a true fan means respecting someone’s wishes and we truly hope this helps Justin find more peace.
