Justin Bieber just broke this Elvis and Beatles record

Justin Bieber has been a busy bee lately. Between promoting his new album Purpose, to carpool karaoke sessions, to serenading Selena Gomez and making us all cry The Notebook-worthy tears as he tells us he’ll never not love her (GAH, crying again), it’s safe to say he has a lot on his plate at the moment.

But it looks like all his hard work lately has been worth it, as the super-talented pop singer just broke an impressive record that was last held by legendary acts Elvis Presley and The Beatles: He just replaced his own song as number one in the UK. Yes, that’s right. Move over, Justin Bieber, because Bieber Comma Justin – who isn’t even from the UK! – is here to slay a little bit.

Bieber’s newest single “Love Yourself” has blown up so quickly in the UK that it has replaced his own (still insanely popular) “Sorry” on the singles chart – something that almost never occurs anywhere. The last artist to replace his own song in the UK was Elvis Presley, 10 years ago, which was a result of a reissue of his songs “Jailhouse Rock” and “One Night/I Got Stung.” The last living performers to perform such a feat were the Beatles, all the way back in 1963, with “She Loves You” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” Which are not only Beatles hits, but early Beatles hits – ones that were amazing in their beginning era but would go on to predate much of their arguably even greater work of the mid to late 1960s.

Perhaps the most impressive part? This isn’t the first time Bieber has broken a Beatles-held record. Just a couple weeks ago, he charted a whopping 17 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 – seventeen. The Beatles’ record was 14 songs in a single week in 1964, which was actually matched earlier this year by Drake.

Justin Bieber had a lot to live up to, but we can’t say we’re surprised. If nothing else, his passion for music and amazing talent shines so brightly, and we’re stoked for him. Maybe we’ll get lucky enough for him to cover some Elvis and Beatles songs sometime soon in tribute? One can only hope…
