Justin Bieber gets roasted and is a REALLY good sport about it
Do we all know what a roast is? For the uninitiated, it’s this thing where a bunch of comedians and celebrities get together (usually on Comedy Central) and one by one get up on stage and “honor” a public figure who is in attendance by hardcore insulting that person. (They don’t actually throw eggs at you, that was just for the promo).
“But… being publicly insulted by a bunch of famous people…sounds like my worst nightmare?” you say. Totally, you guys, it sounds like my worst nightmare, too. But celebrities do it! All the time! To prove that they have thick skins and don’t take themselves too seriously! And it works! Because if you can sit through a couple of hours of lots of famous people publicly insulting you on television, you have earned your street cred, my famous friend.
So props where they are due. Last night Justin Bieber was the subject of a Comedy Central roast and after being insulted by everyone from Ludacris to Martha Stewart and enduring SO MANY SELENA GOMEZ JOKES, he got up onstage and was a pretty good sport about the whole thing, and even issued a public apology for his questionable behavior over the last few years.
When he took the stage at the end, he admitted he’s “…turned a lot of people off the past few years. … There was no preparing me for this life. I got thrown into this, 12 years old. There are moments I’m proud of and things I’ve done that don’t define who I am. I look forward to being someone you’re proud of. … I’m excited to see what’s next.”
He then turned to the camera and made a vow before us all:
“You have my word — I will not end up broken, pathetic, bitter or sitting on someone else’s roast. I’m at a moment of change. This is a new day.”
Our little Bieber is growing up! We love that this dude is turning a corner and know he’s going to make good on his word and make us proud
