We have the deets on Jurassic World 2. Two words: Chris Pratt.
Jurassic World is now the third highest grossing movie of all time, just behind Avatar (#1) and Titanic (#2). It’s currently sitting pretty with $1.522 billion dollars worldwide, and yes, that’s billion with a B. These dinosaurs edged out The Avengers to snag this spot, so you know what that means? It’s time for MORE Jurassic World. And you know what more Jurassic World means? MORE Chris Pratt.
On Thursday, Universal Pictures announced that a sequel to Jurassic World is in the works, and it’ll bring back our favorite raptor trainer, Owen. THANK GOODNESS. Also slated to return? Bryce Dallas Howard, reprising her role as Claire. It’ll be interesting to see where the story goes, seeing as how (spoiler alert) the Jurassic World theme park was completely destroyed, and then taken over by the dinosaurs. The movie ends with Pratt’s Owen and Howard’s Claire deciding to stick together — for survival, of course — so will the two of them wind up back on the island, trying to straighten everything out? Also can we get Claire a pair of comfy shoes?
The script will be written by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, who both had a hand in Jurassic World. Trevorrow directed, Connolly did a script re-write, and now they’re going to tackle this next installment together as a writing team. Trevorrow will not direct the sequel. Deadline thinks it’s because he’s going to do a Star Wars movie, and that’s fine with us. May we suggest another guy who really knows dinosaurs, Steven Spielberg? He’s already executive producing, and he could easily pull double duty.
Also, let’s be the first to start the campaign to get Jake Johnson back as Lowery, and have him team-up with Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm. Think of the comedic relief and smirking!!
So go ahead and pull our your iCalendar, and mark this date down: Friday, June 22, 2018. That’s the release date for Jurassic World 2: More Dinos, More Problems — OK, not really the title of the new movie, but that would be a pretty good title, right?
