Prepare for the trip of a lifetime to Schweitzer Falls, The Rock will star in a Jungle Cruise movie

Take a seat everyone, and keep your hands and arms inside the boat at all times, because this dock is expensive and we don’t want to damage it, okay? Instead of taking another animated classic and turning it into a live-action masterpiece, Disney is going to chart a different course this time. If you’ve ever wanted to see The Rock — or, Dwayne Johnson — as a Jungle Cruise skipper, guess what? That’s becoming a reality.

Following in the footsteps of Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, The Country Bear Jamboree, and (sure, why not) Tomorrowland, Jungle Cruise is the latest Disney Parks staple to get the movie treatment. A Jungle Cruise movie has actually been in development for a very long time — since at least 2010. At one point, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks were going to be in the movie. The news that The Rock would instead be in the movie broke all the way back in August 2015. So hey, guess good things come to those who wait.

With The Rock’s deal now officially onboard, the movie is set to shoot in early 2018, which means we could be seeing it our very near future, if our very near future is like Christmas 2018.

There’s no word on what the plot of the movie will follow, or if it will even include such iconic Jungle Cruise character as Amazon Belle and Congo Queen, Ginger the Crocodile (be careful, she snaps), and The Backside of Water. Whatever happens, if it means The Rock has to wear one of those Skipper costumes and a big floppy hat and pretend to shoot blanks at hippos, we are here for it.
