The new ‘Jungle Book’ trailer is here and it’s even more jaw-dropping than the teaser

Over the weekend, Disney released 6 spectacular seconds of footage from its upcoming live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book and the Internet had a collective jaw-drop. When Disney announced that The Jungle Book would be its next live-action movie, some were skeptical. After all, the story is about a young boy named Mowgli who lives in the jungle amongst the animals. Some are his friends, others his enemies, but it’s still a movie about a child surrounded by fierce wild animals. As a cartoon, the fierce aspect gets toned down; as a live-action epic, not so much.

We wondered how successful Disney would be in bringing the creatures of the jungle to life in a believable way that still jived with the tone of the story. If this first full teaser trailer is any indication though, the answer to that question is very. Very successful.

The trailer gives us a first look at many of the animals in Mowgli’s world, like Baloo the bear, Bagheera the black panther, Shere Khan the tiger and King Louie the orangutan. But the animal that gets the real spotlight is Kaa, a powerful python voiced by Scarlett Johansson. Kaa narrates the trailer with a creepy, but captivating hiss.

Johansson isn’t the only famous face lending her voice to one of the jungle animals in the movie though. She’s joined by a stellar voice cast that includes Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, and Christopher Walken. We don’t get to hear any of the other voice actors speak in this trailer, but it only makes us more excited to see more footage from the movie in the future.

The Jungle Book boasts its cred in the trailer, reminding viewers that it’s from the studio that brought them Pirates of the Caribbean and the director of Iron Man. Those are big expectations to live up to, but this trailer makes us think the movie just might manage to do it. The Jungle Book will be released next spring, on April 15, 2016. And if you want the terrifyingly awesome animals of the movie to really come alive, you can even see this one in 3D.
