Julianne Hough just taught us how to get the perfect beachy perm

Julianne Hough did something that you really don’t hear many people doing these days. She took her shag haircut to another level and got a perm! While it’s not too strange when a retro hairstyle returns as a trend, the perm is an elusive creature. When you first think of the word perm, those tight, spiral hairstyles from the ‘80s may come to mind. Julianne’s new ‘do is actually the opposite — it basically looks like beach waves!

The dancer and actress showed off her new look on Instagram, first teasing with a photo of herself in curlers. “You have no idea what’s about to happen,” she wrote in the caption. “I’ve been asking for years to do this but have never been able to until now!!!!”

She also used the hashtag #olaplex, which revealed just what exactly helped her achieve the wavy locks. Olaplex, a hair-strengthening product that is also a favorite of Kim and Khloé Kardashian, was used during the treatment by Julianne’s stylists at Nine Zero One salon.

If only she had captioned the occasion with the words of the great Phyllis Nefler, “He permed me!!!!”

Fans approved of Julianne’s new perm on Instagram, with some even pondering one for themselves. “I actually rly wanna perm it like this! Cuz it looks way better wavy anyway and this is so cute,” wrote user @eythanam. “Dude I think I want a perm and get beachy waves like this!!!!!” exclaimed user @jowanuuuhhh.
