We are so in love with the way Julia Roberts talks to her kids about beauty
Standards of beauty are different for everyone, and they also can be really hard to broach with kids in a healthy, body positive way. In an interview with People, Julia Roberts shared how she discusses beauty with her kids, Henry, Hazel, and Phinnaeus — and her perspective is AMAZING. And it couldn’t be simpler.
"It’s an interesting navigation because you don’t want to mess them up, you don’t want to make them aware of something that was better that they weren’t aware of," Roberts tells Jess Cagle. "I think as long as everybody smells good and has a smile on their face, that’s a beauty regime!"
Yes! We love her no-frills approach. Especially because sometimes it’s easy to get caught up our culture’s super unrealistic standards of beauty, and it’s important to remember that we’re already armed with what we need to attack the day with confidence — our personalities and senses of humor.
Those kids are lucky to have such a positive role model in their life, and from the way Roberts talks about them, it’s clear that the family are a great team.
"They all have a very keen sense of humor, Roberts said. "They all have a sort of different style of humor, but I do think they are all pretty funny, and I really hope they get that from me because that’s what I tell everybody."
Thanks for reminding us to just be ourselves, Julia! And of course we love our makeup and beauty products as much as the next guy, but we also think self-acceptance, self-love, and just not smelling too bad are the pillars of any and every routine!
