Julia Louis-Dreyfus Breaks Ball’s Record

If there were ever a time for a shameless, spaztastic Elaine Benes-style party dance from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, that time is undoubtedly now. Over the years, Louis-Dreyfus has repeatedly become “known for” any one of her many incarnations: From her decade-long, breakthrough role as Benes on Seinfeld, to her five-season continued success in The New Adventures of Old Christine and now as the indelible Vice President Selina Meyer in HBO’s Veep.

But as of late last week, Louis-Dreyfus is making headlines under yet another title — she’s the woman who broke Lucille Ball’s record for all-time Emmy nominations. Julia just got her 14th nomination for her role on Veep (her co-stars Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky were both nominated in the supporting categories as well), surpassing Ball’s thirteen and making her the most-nominated comedic actress ever in the lead and supporting Emmy categories. Congrats, JLD!

(Also, Louis-Dreyfus already took home an Emmy for Veep last year, making her the only actress who has three wins for three separate comedy shows — Veep, Seinfeld and The New Adventures of Old Christine.)

Julia’s up against stiff competition for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category this year. Other nominees include Laura Dern for Enlightened, Lena Dunham for Girls, Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Tina Fey for 30 Rock and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation.
