To prepare for the role of Dumbledore, Jude Law simply hung out with J.K. Rowling one day
In the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Jude Law plays Young (Hot) Dumbledore — and if that weren’t enough to make you jealous, the way he got into character definitely will. How does one prepare for the role of Dumbledore in his youth, you ask? If you’re Jude Law, you spend the day with J.K. Rowling. No, really.
To get ready to play Dumbledore, Jude Law hung out with J.K. Rowling one day.
ETcaught up with the Fantastic Beasts actor and asked him for Fantastic Beasts secrets. Law revealed that he transformed into the role of Dumbledore in the coolest way: Chillin’ with the Harry Potter mastermind — and Fantastic Beasts 2 screenwriter — herself.
"Do you know what I did? I sat in a room for an afternoon with J.K. Rowling, and I listened to her extraordinary words of wisdom."
While he didn’t share any particular words of wisdom from Rowling, he explained how they spent the afternoon.
Turns out, their meeting was pretty insightful: “She was kind enough to share with me the whole backstory and her future hopes for this young character of Dumbledore and really, that set me on the path,” Law explained. “I just did what the writer said.”
What we would give to hear all these deets about Dumbledore. Really, though, can you imagine? Why can’t we all get jobs where we can demand to spend a day hanging out with Rowling and swear it’s for professional reasons? Sigh.
We’ll keep living the magical dream, though, and counting down the days to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald — in theaters November 16th.
