Settle down everyone, Joss Whedon isn’t looking to cast a big star as Batgirl

When the news broke that Joss Whedon would be directing a Batgirl movie, we all totally lost our cool. And now that news is slowly coming in about the film we’re getting even more excited. But in a recent interview, Joss said he doesn’t think Batgirl needs to be played by a big movie star and we are intrigued.

At the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiere, Variety took a second with Joss to get an update on what is happening with Batgirl. It’s only been a few weeks since it was announced he’d not only be writing the Batgirl movie, but also directing and producing. So he’s probably started thinking about possible casting right? Well, apparently Joss is focusing on the character first before even considering who could star in the role.

"I don't have my eye on anybody. I feel like I'm creating this character, I'm in a dialogue with her. And then we'll see who joins that later on."

Sounds like a good plan! And while Joss said he’s not against a big “name” playing the role, he already knows that he needs to get this casting “just right” and is willing to take the time to find the right person. And we 100% agree! You can watch the full interview below:

Since Joss is still working on the script, we probably won’t be seeing Batgirl for quite a while. But in the meantime, it’s pretty fun to come up with our own ideas for who could play the role — even if Joss isn’t thinking about casting quite yet.
