Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going to star in the ‘Fraggle Rock’ movie

Today in nostalgia: Fraggle Rock is coming to the big screen. Don’t be alarmed: The seemingly-involuntary spasming you’re currently experiencing is just your childhood self taking over your body and jumping for joy. I’d like to say it will pass soon, but this next sentence is only going to make it worse. Not only is Fraggle Rock becoming a real, live-action, big screen movie, but it’s going to star none other than your imaginary guy BFF Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Variety reports.

Why is Fraggle Rock just now becoming a movie, especially in light of the success of other nostalgia franchises like The Muppets? Well, it’s been in development, off and on, for years, but it lacked the star power to bring it to the big screen. Enter JGL, who is now attached to the project as not just a star, but a producer as well, proving that he loves the Fraggles as much as anyone born in the 80s should.

“The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock,” JGL told Variety. “Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”

As excited as I am for this news (and, trust me, the excitement levels are high), I have some very important questions that need answers ASAP. I’ll be Googling pretty much nonstop until more details are released.

1. Will JGL be playing/voicing a Fraggle or a live-action human being who interacts with Fraggles?

Think Jason Segel in The Muppets. If he voices a Fraggle, he will clearly be Gobo Fraggle, right?

2. Will the Fraggles be muppets or CGI?

This is very, very, important. Muppets or bust. I’ll admit, I’ll be very disappointed if they are not Muppets.

3. If this is live-action, involving human characters, will the Fraggles be taken out of their titular Rock?

Of course they will. This seems like a “duh” one, but if the Fraggles are sent to Manhattan to bumble around aimlessly a la The Smurfs, I’ll be sad. Let’s get creative, people.

4. Who else will be a part of the movie? Who will voice the Fraggles?

I basically need to know all of the characters, Fraggles and otherwise, so I can start dreamcasting immediately. Is that so much to ask?

5. Where can I find a comprehensive list of all new merchandise that will be available along with the film?

I’m particularly interested in Wembley and Red merch, but I love all Fraggles.
