Our thoughts are with Joni Mitchell, sending her much love

Yesterday afternoon, legendary musician Joni Mitchell was hospitalized after being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home. According to statements released via the singer’s official website and Twitter, Mitchell “regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital” and is “currently in intensive care undergoing tests.” According to TMZ, she has had surgery since admittance, but there is no confirmation yet on what the procedure was, or the level of its severity, or even if it happened.

Her official Twitter page sent the following messages to fans.

The news comes after several years of health struggles for Mitchell, which she described in an interview with New York Magazine last February as a “survival blur.” But Mitchell is a fighter. Throughout her life, the singer has overcome scarlet fever, polio, dengue fever, and currently suffers from Morgellons, an incurable skin disorder. “Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm,” Mitchell told New York Mag, “They cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable, or mineral.” Our thoughts are with her today.

It’s no secret we love Joni Mitchell very much — her gorgeous music has gotten us through heartbreak like nothing else. A prolific music powerhouse in the ’60s and ’70s (Blue is a life-changing album, go stream), she’s perhaps best known for her song “Big Yellow Taxi.” Mitchell was well-deservedly inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, and continues to make music today.

“Light a candle and sing a song,” the most recent update on Mitchell’s site concluded, “let’s all send good wishes her way.”

The singer-songwriter is very much in our thoughts, and we’re sending all our love. And may we suggest this gorgeous song on which to center your good thoughts.
