Part of Jon Snow’s costume on “Game of Thrones” is from Ikea

It’s no shocker that we love hacks. Beauty hacks, fashion hacks, life hacks. And while we may have thought that it was just us plebeians who loved quick tips and tricks, we were wrong. So very wrong. Apparently, even Hollywood costume designers appreciate a cheaper and smarter alternative to spending a lot of money. If you’re familiar with Game of Thrones, and its curly-haired favorite Jon Snow, then you’re in for a treat.
As King in the North, Jon spends a lot of time outside, in the freezing cold, wearing a furry cape. And guess what? Jon Snow’s cape is actually from Ikea, because even Hollywood costume designers appreciate a good hack.

BuzzFeed reports that Michele Clapton, the show’s costume designer for the first five seasons, revealed just how those capes are made. In a lecture Michele gave at The Getty Museum in Los Angeles, she announced (to the surprise of the world) that those capes are “actually Ikea rugs.” Literally. She then says,
"We take anything we can. We cut, and then we shaved them, and then we added strong leather straps, and breakdown which is like a religion on Game of Thrones."
It’s okay if you need a minute. We need one, too. But, if you’re looking to play Jon Snow for Halloween, or simply want to bring some Game of Thrones goodness into your space, then head to your local Ikea. Although we’re not quite sure which rug they use. BuzzFeed thinks it’s the RENS sheepskin rug, which will only cost you $29.99.
We’ll never look at an Ikea rug the same way again.
