Johnny Depp’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” sequel character has been revealed
When news that a certain Mr Johnny Depp was to star in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, it’s safe to say that the response was mixed.
People were curious about whom Johnny Depp could possibly be playing in the second film of a proposed five in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and now it seems that all that information has been revealed.
LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU WANT TO AVOID SPOILERS.
Speaking to Harry Potter fan site, The Leaky Cauldron, director David Yates let slip exactly who Johnny Depp would be playing in the films and, tbh, we’re not *too* surprised.
Yates confirmed that Johnny Depp would be playing Gellert Grindelwald.
"The whole principle of casting the movie was go with the best actor. Go for the most inspired, interesting, right fit for that character. And as we approached Grindelwald we thought, 'Who's going to take this in an interesting direction?'" the director said.
Hmm….
Yates went on to say that Depp was a “real artist,” which is partly why they chose him.
He also revealed that they picked him regardless of whether he was famous or not.
"Grindelwald is an iconic character, so it was important to have someone who had that weight. There’s a reason why he has that weight. It’s because, you know, he’s a fine actor who makes unexpected choices," producer David Heyman added.
Yates and Heyman also revealed more details about the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequels and they sound amazing.
Firstly, they revealed that DUMBLEDORE will be back (although they’ve not cast him yet. They also revealed that the second movie would be set in Paris and the U.K.
"I’m not sure where Jo is setting the rest of the movies, but they’ll be European-centric. I think it will be difficult to ignore America, but the next one is predominately Europe," said Yates.
Of course, we’ve got some time until the sequel to Fantastic Beasts is released. However, we’re guessing that we’ll know more come November 18th when the first film in the series hits our screens.
SO. EXCITING.
