Have mercy — John Stamos has a new TV show, and it’s all about his early life in soaps

Have mercy! We’re about time-warp back to the ’80s and learn a bit more about the early days of John Stamos thanks to a new show based on his pursuits as a young actor.

Stamos, along with Hairspray Live! producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, are developing the show through Universal Studios — where the latter duo have a development deal — for Amazon Studios.

Before he became everyone’s dream uncle on Full House, Stamos starred as Blackie Parrish on the long-running daytime soap General Hospital from 1982-1984.The untitled new show would loosely follow Stamos’s big break as an 18-year-old from California, who launches into stardom after landing a role on a hit daytime soap.

So how dramatic should we expect this show to be? Adam Stein, the writer behind the new series, described the project to Deadline as “Boogie Nights in the soap world.” In that case, it seems that we’ll be getting a darker look at what it’s like to be a teen soap star of the ’80s — and we’re so in.

Since his run on Full House ended in the mid-90s, Stamos has been a TV staple, starring on later seasons of ER, Scream Queens, Grandfathered, and Fuller House, on which he reprises his role as Uncle Jesse Katsopolis. Zadan, Meron, and Stamos have previously worked together as executive producers of the Emmy nominated 2000 Beach Boys mini-series, Beach Boys: An American Family.

While we don’t expect Stamos to star as his younger self — but honestly, he’s aging so well, he probably *could* — we hope to see him in at least a few episodes. Until then, we’ll be catching Stamos on the third season of Fuller House, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
