John Oliver tells us a bunch of lies and we believe him
John Oliver — who tells truths so necessary that his segments have started televised feuds with FCC Chairmen and FIFA officials, been cited in legal cases, and generally helped us all get a handle on some of the most overlooked issues in our country — will soon be taking a very different approach to educating the public. He’s basically going to lie to all of us.
In the clip below, he makes an exciting announcement: He’s releasing a book called Stranger Than Truth:John Oliver’s 101 Favorite History Lies, a title he casually mentioned a couple weeks before when he claimed Abraham Lincoln once pardoned John Wilkes Booth prior to his assassination.
The book is exactly what it sounds like. Oliver made up a bunch of out-there facts, including the origins of Riverdance and Paul Revere’s allergy status the night of his famous midnight ride, and Simon & Schuster is publishing it in 2016.
Unless, of course, he’s lying and there really is no book. And that may be the case. Or is it? We’re totally confused.
