Here’s a nice thing on the internet today: John Mulaney is hosting “SNL,” and no one can control themselves

The guy responsible for one of the most iconic Saturday Night Live characters is finally hosting the show, and it is a VERY big deal. John Mulaney will be making his hosting debut on the legendary sketch comedy show on April 14th, in anticipation of his upcoming Netflix special Kid Gorgeous at Radio City. Jack White will be serving as musical guest, promoting his new album Boarding House Reach.

Mulaney previously wrote for the sketch comedy series for six seasons, winning an Emmy for his work on the show in 2012. The comedian is probably best known to SNL fans as the co-creator of Bill Hader’s popular Weekend Update character Stefon, who knows all about New York’s hottest clubs. When Hader returned to host SNL a few weeks ago and reprised the iconic Update character, not only did Mulaney also return to help write it, he made a surprise appearance as Shy, Stefon’s lawyer.

Mulaney took to Twitter this afternoon to confirm his hosting debut, tweeting, “Oh boy.”

Throughout his tenure as a writer on the show, Mulaney also made a number of appearances on Weekend Update — and we’re honestly so excited to see a whole show dedicated to him.

Since leaving SNL, the comedian starred on Fox sitcom Mulaney and has released two stand-up specials, New in Town and Comeback Kid, which are essential viewing for every comedy-lover out there.

The comedian also teamed up with Nick Kroll for Oh, Hello, a Kroll Show sketch in which the duo play a pair of elderly best friends from the Upper West Side. Following Kroll Show‘s end, the pair turned the sketch into a live show on Broadway — which was later released as a Netflix special. Mulaney currently stars alongside Kroll on the hilariously awkward Netflix animated series Big Mouth.

John Mulaney is truly one of the funniest people alive, and we can’t wait to see him make his hosting debut on SNL on April 14th.
