John Krasinski sits at same table as Leonardo DiCaprio, was too scared to say hi, is all of us
Katy Perry isn’t the only one who felt a little bit awkward at the Golden Globes in the presence of the greats (despite the fact that she’s a great herself!). John Krasinski also felt a bit uncomfortable. Why? Because he was at the same table as Leonardo DiCaprio and had *no* idea what to do. (We wouldn’t either, John.)
Recently, the 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi actor explained to Ellen Degeneres that Emily Blunt couldn’t accompany him to the Golden Globes last week due to the fact that she was filming a movie. “It turns out when you go stag, they put you at a great table,” he told Ellen. “Leonardo DiCaprio’s table.”
Awesome, right? Not so much, John explained. He felt a little uncomfortable introducing himself to the star. “That sounds really cool, except I didn’t get a chance to meet him,” he confessed to Ellen. “Because I didn’t want to be like, ‘Hey man, I’m the guy who doesn’t have anybody!’”
Then, it got a little more weird for John when he realized that pretty much everyone at his table were there for Leo’s movie — Revenant — and that film started raking in the awards. “I’m in the middle of hugs and people are like, ‘This is the best year ever!’ and I was like, ‘Wasn’t it?’” John said. “And then everybody went up and gave their speech and I felt really pretty stupid.”
He was able to keep it cool and not reveal the weirdness of the situation. . . until director Alejandro Iñárritu was on stage to receive Best Director. “When he won he said ‘hi’ to everyone and ‘thank you’ because they all worked on the movie, and then turned to me and there was that moment of like, ‘Why are you here?’” John said. “And I was like, ‘Congratulations!’”
John, we feel you, and it just makes us love you all the more. Watch John chat to Ellen about his awkward award anecdotes below.
